Pros

An Employee will have the opportunity to change another person's life for the better. In some cases you can save a persons life.

Cons

Insurance coverage has been greatly reduced for a marginal increase in pay. You will often times be mandated to work long hours. Little to no support from any staff. There is an elevated risk of physical violence from our clients.

Advice to Management

Take employee suggestions and feelings into consideration. When a suggestion is made don't reprimand the employee. Actively deal with issues instead of allowing them to get worse. Have a stronger stance on violence in the work place.

I have been working at The GEO Group (PA) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It's a job It has benefits

    Cons

Company does NOT care about their employees If there is an allegation against you, you can be suspended w/o being told why...for several months Top management is totally out of touch with staff, they spend all their time in meetings New facility director doesn't seem to be helping and barely even speaks to staff.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your meetings and see what is going on. Be open to staff suggestions.

I worked at The GEO Group (PA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a good starting job if you want to learn what the field is set up. A great starting point of a job for someone in mental health

    Cons

Very few chances for raises in salary Overt Racist employees and practices Unprofessional Behavior among security No enforcement of company/corporate policies. Management is obviously uncaring toward concerns of subordinates. Obvious favortism toward individuals of only certain skin tone or family relationships.

    Advice to Management

Enforce policy for those that deserve it for obvious late arrivals. Keep the rules consistent with everyone. Try listening to clinically trained staff on how to run a program, not only people who can read the policy. Consider more pay raises and advocating for the employees who are going the extra mile, not just a pat on the back. Acknowledge that there are employees who drive LONG DISTANCES who are doing more than the ones who have been working there longer than 5 years.
