I worked at The Gap full-time

    Pros

Benefits: health insurance, 401k, employee stock purchase plan, employee discount at retail stores. Company culture: the company strives to be "cool" and "hip" and focuses on the people who help the company succeed. The company promotes having fun as long as you contribute and be a team player.

    Cons

Being a retail specialty clothing retailer, the people working at Gap are relatively younger than other companies. There is a cliquish feeling with some of the groups and teams and you need to be able to socialize and be a true team player. Some people might be uncomfortable with this if they are a little more introverted. Extroverts will probably do much better.

Former Employee - Retail Management Program in San Francisco, CA

I worked at The Gap full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    -great cross-functional business exposure
    -one-on-one mentoring
    -classroom training

    Cons

-typical corporate downside (lots of meetings, ingrained attitudes and cultures)
-some office politics re: promotions etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Career tracking support seems to drop off a bit after initial hire - retail management program. Engagement could be improved to secure higher program alumni retention.
