I worked at The Gap part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Half off a certain number of clothes a month. Decent discount otherwise. Positive coworkers.

    Cons

Usual retail woes (occasional crazy customers, return fraud, constantly rebuilding clothing displays).

    Having to push "GAP Cards"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Requiring a quota of credit card sign ups encourages predatory and dishonest sales tactics among a constantly dimishing pool of customers (a person can only get a card once so no repeat sign ups possible)

I worked at The Gap full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I really appreciated the amount of training they provided to their store managers and sales associates. They trained the teams very well on customer service and selling skills. Also they provided a good amount of product knowledge to support the ability to sell the product.

    Cons

6 different District Managers in 5 years! There were some benefits to this though as the DMs that weren't very strong didn't last long, and I was able to learn something from each of their different management styles, but it made it challenging for long term growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't overlook strong, consistent performers.
