I have been working at The Gap full-time

Pros

Ability to work with lots of cool technology on some huge scale, international projects.

Cons

Too many consultants in every part of the tech organization.
Too many manager roles involved in agile projects; they're not agile projects anymore!
Some parts of the organization are resistant to change.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the employee to consultant mix by rewarding employees through more competitive salaries and perks; you've fallen way behind the Bay Area tech companies.

I worked at The Gap full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people. Fun work environment. Family friendly. If you need to work from home on occasion, no problem. Old Navy is the most playful and Banana Republic is the most serious, with Gap somewhere in between.

    Cons

IT systems are antiquated. Much of the company is run using Excel. Retail is cyclical. Every quarter there are cycles of high stress. Design and innovation still seems to be lacking - people just don't go to Gap, BR, or Old Navy as they use to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move IT into 21st century. Give people the tools they need to succeed.
