I worked at The Gap part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-great job for someone who's in school (very flexible scheduling)
    -coworkers are usually great
    -no uniform
    -overall? very chill

    Cons

-it is a retail job, so you get retail employee treatment (not the best pay, customers can get on your nerves somtimes)
-they put a lot of emphasis on getting credit cards to the point that it seems like cashiers are more valued than other employees, especially those who get customers to sign up for cards
-absolutely no challenges (if you don't give up school or personal time to work more hours and possibly become an assistant manager, then you'll remain a lowly associate)
-overall, and eventually, the CONs will outweigh the PROs if you don't wish to make a career there

    I worked at The Gap

    Pros

The only pro I had during my 3yrs was the people that I had a chance to work with

    Cons

Too much politics and behind the scenes stuff that affect what goes on with regard to your career path. While I was there a man got promoted to manager within a week all because he knew one of the higher managers. Someone else was promoted to stock supervisor while only having been there a year despite the fact he hardly did any work.. Why?! Because he had a good relationship with one of the GMs. No promotions to FT. I worked full time hours but was still part time which meant no benefits for me ! My highest raise was 30 cents during my first year and my lowest was 17 cents as the company claimed to have money issues ! Smh !

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent with your employees and help develop a plan for them to move up if that's what they choose. Promotions should be based on quality of work not whose cool with who
