merchandise and administrative assistants - mind the compensation gap

Administrative Assistant (Former Employee)
San Francisco, CA

I worked at The Gap full-time for more than 8 years

Prossurely th 50% clothing discount. for banana republic clothing at least, as that is the most quality of the three brands. and you can always stock up on business suits at that discount right before you plan to quit. Also, the cafe of course. fantastic healthy, but tasty food and truly genuine and nice people were staffed in the cafe. loved the tuna melt

Consi worked as an administrative assistant for 8 years. At first, I was hooked, I repeated the mantra 'you be you' every day, participated, smile on my face, thought that yes I too was contributing the best I could. And I taped the corporate mantra 'you be you' to my desk. Yes, you can be you, but if you are an admin assistant or merchandise assistant just beware that YOU will never be compensated in the same and fair fashion as your colleagues. You will never receive a bonus. Every single type of employee in that company, receives a year end bonus, that is unless, you are administrative support. why is that? for such an egalitarian environment to segregate a group of employees and compensate them down from ALL the others...well, when your bills add up and rent sky rockets again...it becomes a bummer. and then you the the bad 'tude.

Advice to Senior Managementwe realize lower tier employees, such as admins, will never truly contribute the big loaves of bread when it comes to bringing revenue into the business, but we sure work, kiss ass, deliver coffee/lunch, etc to the very people, who DO

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Pros: discount, great retail experience, fun relationships, face to face with… Cons: always pushing for brand credit cards can feel rude and… Advice to Senior Management: Spend more time preparing people with the register! Looking slick and not having to call someone over to help… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
