I have been working at The Gap

Pros

You get a chance to work with very talented people, and probably the top of the industry.
The corporate discount is generous & convenient.

Cons

Work life balance is hard to achieve. Senior Management all talk about it, but demand high deliverables, making it impossible for their direct reports.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be realistic with your goals or be honest about really wanting work, life balance for your team.

Managers run it like a popularity contest because they are so unskilled, at higher levels one cares about the quality.

    I worked at The Gap

    Pros

Good discount. If you can kiss a lot of ass and somehow never need to ask anything of your bosses at all, you can probably have a job for life there. Lots of training opportunities, but no where to advance.

    Cons

Management in most areas totally lack technical expertise-they are catty, political, gossipy and do not reward high performance or value skills. They live for this bizarro world positive feedback loop that celebrates the banal. No one cares about the product. People live in fear of voicing an opinion. Deliverables are unrealistic and goals set impossible to hit. Top management will not address serious QA issues that are impacting the brands reputation. CEO cares about stock price and cutting costs only and has instituted policies pulling PTO money off of the books whether or not time was taken after a year and now every year at Christmas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bold would be holding prodcution department accountable for the incredibly low quality that has recently become the norm. Real would be expecting upper management to embrace a prodcut driven business model- like the old days- and produce results instead of just postive reviews. You can't get away with pilling sweaters and tee that spring holes on the first wash for much longer.
