I have been working at The Goddard School full-time for less than a year

Pros

Great ideas and wants to move forward

Cons

Not enough support from ownership, and teachers get away with too much. Being late 100 times a year is apparently no big deal.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about how much money you make a year and start being more concerned with the progress of the school or you won't have ANY money coming in because everyone will pull their children.

I worked at The Goddard School full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Love the children and the opportunity to watch them grow.

    Cons

Extreme favortism of certain employees who get away with things that other employees are held accountable for. Owners and directors violate DSS policies and even their own policies and directors and those in charge have no experience in education and try to run the business as a coorporate entity. Teachers are replaced with others who have no experience in education and children are continuously shifted from one classroom to the other to satisfy ratio requirements. Parents have no idea this goes on all day long and management tries to hide this problem from the parents. Demands on staff are high with no realistic way of accomplishing what is expected but still held accountable. Not enough time to teach children when more time is having to be spent with other paperwork and daily tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be educated on what is age appropriate and realize their education is more important than the required daily paperwork that takes away from actually teaching. Need to be educators making decisions, not people with business degrees.

A good idea, but not enough checks and balances.

I worked at The Goddard School full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The center is beautiful, the parents were involved and caring and the children were wonderful. The curriculum was diverse and easily tailored to fit individual classes.

    Cons

As a franchise, owners do not have to be knowledgeable in early childhood best practices. For this reason, they can run their schools however they see fit, whether that be for the benefit of the children and families, or for their own reasons. At this school, the owner disregarded advice from the directors she hired and proceeded to engage in completely inappropriate and unprofessional acts towards staff members. Company checks came too late, and any actions taken to rectify the situations that occurred were ineffective.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have hired a director, based on his/her experience and expertise in the early childhood field, be sure to let him/her use that knowledge to run the school. This is the only way to keep a school at capacity, and to hire -and retain- quality teachers.
