I worked at The Hartford full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very flexible work environment and freedom to work on research that will make an impact at the company

    Cons

Project management is poorly done. All the pieces people are working on don't often come together nicely as a result

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are good at hiring talented researchers. Try to focus on hiring some talented project managers. It is a boring, un-glamerous role

I worked at The Hartford full-time

    Pros

Learned a lot about metrics, analytics, strategy and had great opportunities to grow as a leader

    Cons

SIgnificant senior leadership change over the time I was there. This lead to a difficult and challenging political environment. Things may be stabilizing post TARP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch out about getting into too much of the "good old boy" system when it comes to selecting leaders....focus on skills and merit for a management development program that develops true skills with actual talent.
