Former Employee - Director in Hartford, CT

I worked at The Hartford full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Those reasons do not exist anymore, unfortunately. The employees who remain saw how they forced out long term age 50+ ees under the guise of a gun-to-the-head medical offer. The amazing talent that has left that once-great company is plain mind-boggling. And the upper management doesn't even know it bc they are too busy picking up pennies from the floor.

Cons

As a public company, HIG is owned by its shareholders, NOT its employees nor its customers. Therefore, ALL decisions are made to benefit the shareholders. There is a much reduced regard for customers and hardly any regard for employees. Buy the stock, but don't work there. It's just not worth your mental health.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Work/Life Balance.
    Paid Time Off
    Remote Worker Program
    Financials are improving
There is investment in updating some systems

    Cons

There is too much focus on extracurricular activities to drive employee engagement.
Poor IT Infrastructure, only recently has there been a focus on updating some systems, in 2013, many computers were still on Windows 2003.
Ideas from outside the clique are not accepted or even given cursory consideration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update financial products that keep pace or surpass competitors ie., Homeowners Policy with ACV only. Android App has not been updated since 2011 and only directs calls to claims or towing, no access to policy info, no ability to make policy changes.

    Pros

    Decent Wage for Unlicensed work.

    Cons

Antiquated Computer Systems and applications. Does not invest in long term strategies. Poor knowledge management tools. Too many procedural steps to complete simple transactions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in systems that make the Customer Service delivery easier. Employees have to jump through hoops to complete simple transactions.
