I have been working at The Home Depot

Pros

- There are many different career opportunities within the confines of the Home Depot walls. You can theoretically change careers without switching companies, within reason
- The company also cares a lot about the community and it shows with the amount of passion I see in the employees whenever we have community service projects
- Employees are often empowered to make their own decisions, even on the front line (in stores)

Cons

- Home Depot is a big company and therefore is natural to be slow and steady moving. There is not much of an appetite to make big changes to the way they do things
- Middle-management tends to like the status quo and they seem to be there just for the job
- The culture might be hard for someone new to buy into and the company is really big on that

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish middle mangers were more interested in their direct report's growth within the team. There are too many times I have seen great talent get shipped off to another department because there wasn't enough in the budget to promote the person within. This leads to lost talent, knowledge, experience, mentor, etc. Grant it, the other departments benefit from the talent, there is something to be said about growing your own group before helping others.

Nice place to work at, fellow employees are very nice, except for all the customer drama.

I worked at The Home Depot

    Pros

They pay is very nice and they give a lot of hours to cashiers. The employees are also nice and management threats them all very well.

    Cons

Customers are very crazy, it's like working at a big Mc'Donalds. Customers expect you to be fast with their transactions, but is kind of hard when they carts filled with all sort of supplies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are overall very good at handling problems,I would just recommend them to offer more help to the cashiers.

I have been working at The Home Depot

    Pros

I purchased a home last year and was looking for a part time job to help pay for the materials needed to make improvements. One of the benefits of working at Home Depot was that I had access to a wealth of knowledge on home improvement from other associates.

    Cons

Management was not very flexible when it came to scheduling. They would consistently schedule the bare minimum number of workers for each shift causing customer service to suffer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To ensure that associates are able to provide great customer service schedule enough workers for each shift.
