I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The hours are flexible, but you are required to have open availability even when you are only part-time.

Cons

Low Pay
Good ole boy advancement system. So not much in the way of advancement for seasoned employees.
New managers in and out like a revolving door.
Reviews done by people who really don't see your work.
Too much concentration on the VOC. Random inquiries yields a better sense of the customers experience.
Long hours in the heat 100F + and 40F and below with little or no protection. A HAZARD waiting to happen.
A lot of disrespect towards fellow employees. Awarding Homer Awards to employees one week then firing them the next week..
Company directives are never shared down the line.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Atlanta needs to go on "Undercover Boss" and stop looking at just numbers. Invest the same amount of money in cultivating their employees as the do with training new hires that leave. The bell curve system for employee review scoring is a joke so you can calculate the "Success Sharing?"

    Pros

Good training and support. Very organized and resources are always available to improve your knowledge and advance in the company.

    Cons

Low wages, high turnover and low associate enthusiasm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Could do a better job at filtering out the people that really don't want to be there in addition to paying a competitive wage.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Campus like environment--- gym, CVS, dry cleaning at headquarteres. Great people overall. Great office wide meetings. The salary is on par with other local companies.

    Cons

Health care options are poor, paid time off starts at 2 weeks for 5 years. You get 3 weeks after 5 years. Some managers are flexible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even though its a retail company, try to work on better benefits and include the normal holidays as days off (Christmas Eve, the day after Thanksgiving...)
    Also, work on promoting internally.
