start weeding out the dm level and get new blood in there, not in the sm level where your leadership really is

Former Employee - Kitchen and Bath Designer  in  Lexington, KY
Former Employee - Kitchen and Bath Designer in Lexington, KY

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The training was excellent for kitchen designers. My manager paid for me to get all of my certifications through the National Kitchen and Bath Association. I was very appreciative of that. They have a "COS" that takes care of all the follow-up on your orders once you sell the kitchen. This is a huge plus sense where I work now does not and I have to follow-up on every little detail of every little thing I sell. At Home Depot I could just focus on my customers and selling the kitchen as correct as I possibly could. The pay was pretty good.

    Cons

Sometimes you are so behind in designs you cannot see straight. Also, with my background in interior design I wanted to incorporate lighting layouts and flooring and tile designs for my kitchen and bath sales but you are so overwhelmed doing kitchen after kitchen there is no time to learn all the other areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support the kitchen designers who want to join and continue their education through the NKBA. Not all manager do and that is to their own disadvantage.
