I worked at The Home Depot full-time (less than a year)

Pros

You know what is expected of you with their online training and most of the staff had a cordial work ethic. I feel I was treated fairly and when things were very tough job-wise, I appreciated the paycheck.

Cons

I had good bosses but other supervisors could be overly zealous in drinking the corporate Kool-Aid.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Exercise more positive reinforcement than splitting hairs, find a balance to get the most out of staff.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great training and compensation for excellent services. A strong commitment to sustainability and an ethical corporate outlook. Fantastic upward mobility - most regional managers started out as store-level associates in my area. Friendly, upbeat place to work.

    Cons

Attendance policy makes absolutely no distinction between sick leave and no call, no show. If the store manager and DH's are not on their game, the stores can be a frustrating place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check in with store-level employees about their direct management at least annually. The first store I started with had awful management and it showed in the morale of the store and in how we interacted with customers overall, the second store had really engaged management and our customer approval ratings were consistently high.
