I worked at The Jones Group

Pros

*pleasant work environment--ie clean space, nice music, nice shoes
*customers for the most part are friendly and pleasant
*recognition and incentives for high performance sellers
*comprehensive selling training

Cons

*depending on store, manager's personality may be difficult to get along with
*you a monetary "sales goal" per day, as well as goals for multiples (selling more than 1 pair of shoes to a customer) and accessories and if you don't meet them consistently, you're on your way to getting canned - - so despite telling customers that you "don't work on commission", you basically do b/c you're pushing them toward more shoes/higher priced shoes to meet your goal...except you work the $8/hr without getting any commission compensation
*the target customer is 30+, so if you're looking for a hip place to work (ie Aeropostale, Forever 21) where the younger crowd goes, this isn't the place b/c we usually see white collar professionals, moms, and senior citizens

Advice to ManagementAdvice

*create a different pay system where either the employees are under less pressure to sell high priced items, or if they are, at least compensate them for it

I worked at The Jones Group

    Pros

Professional, productive, and successful company. Employees are considered the backbone of the product and respected as such. Friendly and positive atmosphere was my experience.

    Cons

Divisions seemed to be run differently, but to be expected with different personalities and work styles. Huge company with a corporate atmosphere. Creativity is limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep employees in tune with, and a part of company news and changes. Have higher management reviewed annually and anonymously by their subordinates.

I have been working at The Jones Group

    Pros

People use many hats a lot of the times, so you learn a lot about different functions within the company and you also learn transferable skills like multi-tasking, organizational skills, how to prioritize tasks etc. It's a great place to start a career if you like to work with this industry.

    Cons

After you've been there awhile, you see things start getting a bit old. Innovation is not taken into consideration much.
Growth happens sometimes, but it's limited and you should work very hard and very long hours to be noticed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in employees training sessions, actually make sure all management is sitting down with employees in a timely/respectful manner to deliver performance evaluations - this shows respect towards the employee's well-being.
