Quite a friendly workplace but the higher-ups need work.

I worked at The Kleinfelder Group

Pros

Friendly, personable, but focused employees that know how to separate work and personal life.

Cons

Management and the higher-ups tend to clog the process of projects and work that we had to do.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold quick meetings or 1v1 with the employees to communicate more on the issues that I listed. Or maybe just open a channel of communication between employees and management in order to discover the root of the problems faster and more efficiently.

I have been working at The Kleinfelder Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Flexible daily work hours
    Encourage community involvement

    Cons

    Poor compensation
Reluctance to explore new clients - Ingrained thought that certain clients will always be there, even when evidence strongly suggests otherwise.
Extremely low value of current employees - Management seems to view people as easily replaceable parts, and almost never use the word "employee" or "person," even in in-person meetings.
Poor support of career growth if it doesn't help the company out at that moment. This leads to issues when they pass on potential clients because they don't have people who can support the client, though there were people who wanted to learn those skills previously.

I have been working at The Kleinfelder Group

    Pros

Its great to start out here in the environmental industry because unlike other companies they allow junior level staff to write reports and participate in in the process of determining remedial strategies for sites. There is a culture of learning unlike other companies I have worked for. There is an expectation for employees to try things they may not have done before and to feel comfortable asking questions without fear of being taken off of a task.

    Cons

The unit price system is difficult to get used to making it important to keep track of your time while in the office to 15 min intervals. This makes the task of completing your time sheet at the end of each day take sometime 30 min (which is not billable). The learning curve is discouragingly overwhelming at first with many policies to become accustomed to but if you talk to others you'll learn they experienced the same issues at first and overcame them. It is also a bit demeaning for a mid to senior level person with field experience to have to be "trained" to become "qualified" in common field tasks by junior level staff with less experience. Its all well intentioned, just something to get used to.
