I have been working at The MENTOR Network full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Many of the other reviewers have complained about the pay; however, compared to other mental health agencies that I have worked for in the Philadelphia area, the current rates are actually pretty competitive. In addition, Mentor is the only agency I have found that hires direct service staff as "employees". Most other agencies are only willing to hire part time or independent contractors at this time, which makes workers ineligible for benefits, PTO, travel reimbursement, paid training etc. Lastly, although every company has its bad apples, Mentor does still have a lot of hard-working people who really do want to help and support one another, and who really have the best interest of the clients in mind.

Cons

As with any mental health agency, jobs in this field are closely monitored and regulated by the state, insurance companies, and other funding sources, which means there is often a lot of red tape. Some staff are expected to wear many hats at once, which means if there is not an even distribution of responsibility it can lead to burnout or supervisors who are inaccessible to lower-level staff.

Advice to Management

Delegating leadership/responsibility to additional administrative positions can allow staff to focus more intently on certain aspects of the service, while also ensuring that guidance and leadership is more readily available to direct service staff. It would also seem that more focused, specialized staff would improve the quality of the work that is done and eliminate mistakes that cost the company money in unbillable services. In addition, more effort should be placed on recognizing staff for their efforts. To a certain extent, pay rates are dependent on the reimbursement rates of the funding source, and so a significant increase may not be possible. However, there are other ways to acknowledge the fact that a lot of workers go above and beyond to provide superior services to their clients, and it would create a more positive, motivating work environment to help everyone get through the stress of being in this industry.

    Pros

    Only pro I can think of if helping others, as in clients.

    Cons

    Management has to be the worse I have ever dealt with. Supervisors think they are CEO's of the company treating staff horrible! When a concern comes up they say " let me look at the handbook" there are some life situation that you don't look at the handbook for and use common sense. In which common sense is lacking at this establishment! They don't care about staff or clients all they care about is how many comusmers they have or can get $$$. I actually witness pushing clients off them if they wanted a hug

    Advice to Management

    Go back to school! Get better training! Just because you have an office space doesn't mean you are better than others!
