I have been working at The Mars Agency full-time for more than a year

Pros

Fast-paced, room to think, mobility, awesome culture, work/life balance, MARS is in a lot of different cities and continues to expand, INDEPENDENT company helps it be agile, quick and responsive to the marketplace. Bonuses are great, pay is there and loyalty pays off. Managers listen and care, upper management is absent of greed and truly care about the people of this company

Cons

Structure - constant growing and expanding environment can cause some confusing moments in office politics and can shift around your direct reports, workload etc.

830 start time (though becoming more flexible)

You will always have more work on your plate than you can reasonably tackle

Sometimes the friendly environment removes professionalism and people share things they shouldn't/whine/make excuses etc.

This isn't a "con" for everyone, but this is not an environment for the weak. If you aren't always working as hard as you can and you take things personally, you will not succeed here.

I worked at The Mars Agency full-time

    Pros

-The people at Mars are great. Great friendships can be formed and your co-workers are always willing to help you out
-Work/life balance - managers flexible when you have to come in late/leave early. Out usually at 5pm - rarely stay late

    Cons

-Pay is well below industry standards, as well as the salary increase and bonus's - unless your upper management. Then you get to walk around with a coffee mug all day getting paid extremely well.
-Promotions are a joke. Management just tells you want you want to hear without ever moving forward with helping you develop or get promoted. Also, your previous work doesn’t matter when discussing your career path at Mars so don't think what you've done in the past matters. Doing more gets your nowhere (handling two workloads for a long period of time) - not a thank you or 'great job' - and like I said before, still no conversation on a promotion or pay increase.
-HR puts on great holiday, anniversary, opening day parties and a pretty cool coffee bar. However better pay and getting appreciated would be a better way improve my moral to stay.
-Turnover is horrible, especially the AE and manager level. Makes routines difficult and hard to manage
-Process....what process? No one knows if they're staying/going/leaving. Sometimes feels like a free for all
-The CEO is just plain mean. Yells and belittles employees in front of others and makes the company put thousands of dollars into making us look like a real agency when clients come in......because they're not.
-The AE's are there to just do grunt work and push paper through. There is no strategic development, insight, brief writing or planning involvement. Developing the AE's would be very beneficial in workload, turnover and management opportunities

I have been working at The Mars Agency full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

MARS is a place where people with an entrepreneurial spirit can thrive-- there is complete visibility to leadership, and a very DIY attitude. If you have big ideas, here is place where they're willing to listen, and be prepared to take the lead on your idea. Lots of white space and not a lot of red tape. There are many people here who have built long careers at MARS, and who are happy to be here.

    Cons

Direction changes on an hourly basis. If you don't like your cheese moved, this isn't the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice to focus on one direction-- we waste a lot of time and energy by not getting consensus first.
