    I have been working at The Nature Conservancy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The people care; the work-life balance is good; it's a good organization with a sterllng reputation

    Cons

    People are stationed everywhere, so much contact is electronic. Many people work from home, which makes scheduling face-to-face meetings difficult. The worldwide office has an open plan set-up, which research shows doesn't actually help collaboration, it only drives people crazy.

    Advice to Management

    It's nice that you invest in people, but those people need funds in their operating budgets to get anything done. There are lots of folks who don't seem to have enough work to sustain a full-time job, so there's a lot of make-work going on. Take a hard look at your staff vs. budgets, and figure out if fewer people could actually get more done with leftover resources.

    I worked at The Nature Conservancy full-time

    Pros

    Passionate co-workers and shared commitment to excellence;

    Cons

    There is some bureaucracy to navigate and can take a lot of time to implement ideas

    Advice to Management

    Work to create a culture that values managing staff... but this cannot be HR driven, must come from top. With such talented staff -- consider 10 percent of all staff time dedicated to self-driven projects (think google-style).
