Pros

- Voted top med-size work place last year, and I definitely agree
- Weekly happy hours - Fridays at 4:30
- Very open, respectful, and supportive culture
- Really good about recognizing people
- Filled with really smart people
- Lots of career opportunities since it is growing extremely fast (doubling in size & revenue every year for past few years)

Cons

- You need to be 110% while you are at work
- Very fast paced and can be stressful (so although you can work a typical 40 hour week, you might be thinking about it after you leave)
- Developers & PMs need to keep their timesheet accurate to within 15 mins
- Growing pains given the breakneck growth

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Allow more time for people to improve themselves and their projects
- More team-building activities

    Fast paced, high growth

    Pros

    Faced paced environment
    Relatively flat organizational structure
    Family and pet friendly
    Young employees
    Flexable schedule
    Highly competent coworkers
Fringe benefits are outstanding, including snack foods and social clubs

    Cons

    Lower pay for established employees
Flat organizational structure has limited room for promotions
No paternity benefits, limited maternity benefits
Company can't keep up with growth, office space constraints are a constant issue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down with the growth: the "We're busy today but it will get better" mantra is losing it's shine in the face of "We don't want to ever stop growing". The growing pains prevent us from being the absolute best we could be, and the structure of growth means it can never 'get better', this is the norm which isn't acknowledged.

Create an open pay structure and use it. Your longer-term people aren't getting what they need in salary and are being out-paced by the new hires.

    Pros

Great culture, hard working co-workers, general awesomeness, fast paced environment, great projects. There is a ton of opportunity to grow professionally and learning starts day one. Most of the employees genuinely love The Nerdery and it shows in the cooperative spirit of the team.

    Cons

The pace at which The Nerdery grows can be considered a con. It takes hard work and rigor to keep up with the growing demand for custom software. Hundreds of projects and clients can feel unmanageable at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue being awesome. You have created something extraordinary and it is clear that you really care about the employees. As long as you believe that The Nerdery can be the best place on earth for nerds to work it can be a reality.
