Former Employee - Intern in Istanbul (Turkey)

I worked at The Nielsen Company as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

Learning opportunities are great since it is a B2B company and the clients are multinational and national FMCG companies. One can develop a great insight of FMCG sector and trends. Furthermore, working at Nielsen, one can improve her marketing capabilities and skills to a greater extent since it gives a chance to see the big picture shaping the marketing strategies. Another great plus is that it helps significantly for improving in Excel.

Cons

The biggest con is the high turnover rate and despite this low promotion chances. Although a lot of Business Analysts work in the company, manager level employees are very few and chances to get promoted are relatively low. Furthermore, high turnover rate is a factor that reduces the motivation of employees. Another negative point is the long overtime hours (even weekend work) especially for the first few months of the year due to the reporting and presentation periods. The salaries are not at a level to compensate this downside but only at average for lower level management.

Former Employee - Senior Client Executive in Vienna (Austria)

I worked at The Nielsen Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

ACNielsen: Great working environment, colleagues are young and dynamic. great as a starting point in your career to collect experience in the marketing/market research sector. Perfect to get acquainted with the FMCG business and hands-on experience in the client management, improve presentation skills and learn about key account management.

    Cons

The opportunities within the company depend on the country and the size of the department but in Austria you can reach the ceiling within some years. Right now the management tries to cut costs in any possible way and it might influence your work and relationship to clients. Some clients have, with the fast-changing management, a worse image of the company and might find it unstable, also with a high fluctuation among staff. Compensation is not satisfying compared to the performance and responsibilities they ask.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be more transparent to employees about changes in the company. can prevent a lot of dissatisfaction among staff.
