Top Science overlooking the ocean comes at a price

I have been working at The Salk Institute full-time for more than 7 years

ProsThe Salk Institute does top science and you will be able to start ambitious, interesting projects, meet important people and have lunch (and breakfast and dinner) with an ocean view every day.

ConsAll Salk PI's are on soft money, which, for some, means considerable stress. PI's under considerable stress cannot afford to be generous to their students in terms of mentoring and helping them build a network or a career, since all resources are put towards winning that next grant. Very understandable but not ideal from a postdoc's point of view.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer mentoring for both senior and junior PI's with low revenues in terms of postdoctoral output or grant-winning.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
