I have been working at The Scripps Research Institute full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues. The faculty, students, and postoctoral fellows are truly first rate. The infrastructure/ and facilities are also excellent.

    Cons

The only downside is that it is a "soft money" institution, so the principal investigators need to spend much of their time writing grants. Another con is that only the NIH pays the full overhead on grants, so they are almost the sole source of grant funds.
