Pros

Free lunches for call center employees

Cons

Management team point fingers on critical business issues, e.g. high rank personnel in one division blamed mid level manager in other division in order to explain his division's disappointing performance, with the senior management approving that practice to cover up the issue on hand which is the company's declining business. Many employees are fired within a year of starting employment, an indication of ineffective hiring or management or employment practices. The company also often replace employees who have worked for a while with new employees with much less wage and experience levels who perform more or less the same work, resulting in business issues and unhappy employees. Company and management make false accusations and threats. Employees could end up having different hours, vacation allowance and work after starting versus what were marketed prior to joining, basically the company treat employees as easily dispensable minions, and they will do anything to get rid of people they don't want.

I have been working at The Teaching Company full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The ethos of lifelong learning extends to employees throughout the organization, from production to marketing to the customer care associates working the phones. There are a lot of smart people working here!

    Cons

For the first 20 years of the company's existence, the business was extremely simple. There was only one marketing channel and the management philosophy was very much about following a predetermined formula. Now the world of media has become much more complex, and the business has become much more complex, so lots of older employees aren't used to the rapid change and uncertainty that this creates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communicating the "why" of your actions, as well as the successes and the failures.

I have been working at The Teaching Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture is great - very creative, intellectual employees who are all to believe in the value of the products. There is a lot of communication to employees and customers are held in very high regard. There are a lot of exciting new projects going on in the company, including partnering with top institutions/companies. Benefits are better than other companies I have worked for.

    Cons

I don't have much to add with cons.....every company has challenges. I've had a great experience and I'm excited about what the future holds for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
