I have been working at The University of Kansas

Pros

Relative autonomy and ability to create projects. Excellent work environment. Am given the resources necessary to complete my work efficiently and effectively. Management is open to new ideas as to how improve operations.

Cons

Needs to have more autonomy and trust in executing and completing projects. Fair amount of micro-management in menial tasks. Not enough direction and support in implementing new projects.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for more tasks to be taken on by non-management personnel. The level of control can create an environment that could stifle creativity. Allow for employees to make their own judgements as to what would be best for the organization, so as to support professional growth.

I worked at The University of Kansas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Even if you only know one position in the clinic they are willing to train you to be able to do more than one aspect of the job. This is beneficial to the company because you can fill in for others when needed, but also beneficial to the employee because the experience in hands on training can help you go farther in the future.

    Cons

The clinic stays busy, so no matter what expect to have something to do constantly. This can be high stress when it comes to making sure you cover things in detail sometimes in a short amount of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either hire more people to do the work or allow some overtime to make sure the work is completed the same day.

I have been working at The University of Kansas full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent compensation and benefits compared to most companies. 22 paid vacation days. Excellent work life balance. Excellent forward thinking leadership.

    Cons

State government employee. Pay is below normal for those with advanced degrees. Does not seem there is fast upward mobility. May require PhD for Director positions.
