Current Employee – been working at The Vanguard Group

Pros – Vanguard's motto is 'We Lead', and they do, in a number of areas, including: Senior management integrity; reputation; customer focus; challenges; technology usage; location; esprit d'corps. I find it interesting that many of the negative comments here come from lower-level positions as compared to competitors firms.

Cons – It's true that the quality of middle management is mixed. A lot of one's experience here will depend on who you work for--so be careful and selective, if you can. Managers, unfortunately, are promoted based solely on results and not on a balanced review of how they steward the 'crew' trusted to them and other resources. IT and the business divisions are in different universes. In general: Avoid IT at all costs.

Advice to Senior Management – Trust your employees more and don't always take middle management's side. Create an ombuds office to arbitrate issues. Someone needs to address the toxic culture in IT; it's completely out of sync with the rest of the company.
