I have been working at The World Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Our cause is awesome and we reach people at the grass root level. So if you want to be a part of a team that makes a difference to the lives of those less fortunate and in post conflict countries, this is definitely the place to do that.

    Cons

Lots of red tape and a typical government mentality...

    Advice to Management

Run your business like the private sector.. deliver on your mission and do it efficiently and quickly. Furthermore, just because you have been doing it this way for the last 50 years does not mean it is the only way. Management needs to do more than just network around the world. Be the difference you want to see and don't expect every one else to do all the work while you just take the credit. People from the third world countries make your institution great, change the mentality that only if you have been to an ivy league school you know better :)

I have been working at The World Bank as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

International flair, interesting people, good pay, good holidays.

    Cons

A little too bureacratic. People are so careful with everything they do because they are all so focused on advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Loosen up.
