Current Contractor - Consultant in Washington, DC
Current Contractor - Consultant in Washington, DC

I have been working at The World Bank as a contractor (less than a year)

Pros

- Interact with key organizations working in development field
- Work with very intelligent people
- Learn about development on the macro level

Cons

- very bureaucratic
- things move slow
- many people are jaded after working here for a long time
- a lot of people work at the WB for the wrong reasons and don't seem that passionate

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dismantle the hierarchy a bit more to encourage team work. Don't rely so much on consultants. The high turn around rate and strict limitations on consultants seem very inefficient and you need more long-term people working on projects

I worked at The World Bank as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Diverse, well-paid, challenging, and fast-paced (a rarity for an NGO)

    Cons

Highly political, corrupt, and management is a mess or self-interested.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check into your corruption with projects and contracting.

Current Contractor - Short-term Consultant (STC) in Washington, DC
Current Contractor - Short-term Consultant (STC) in Washington, DC

I have been working at The World Bank as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work around of smart and qualified people. The pay is above the market salary.

    Cons

STC contracts are terrible. You can only work for 150 days per fiscal year and after that you have to be out for around 4 months before they can hire you back. No benefits or rights at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revise the STC figure. Unfair and you end-up loosing smart people.
