Pros

The company produces great products and they are truly a leader in its field, and very good at what they do. They provide great innovations in science, and are on the cutting edge of scinetific discovery, whether it is genomics, proteomics, stem cell research, and even in heavy manufacturing, such as pretoleum refining, oil and gas exploration, steel manufacturing, coal mining and other industries. They started out as a holdign company, but in recent years, they have divested some of their businesses and focused more on their core business of life sciences. They are also looking to buy companies all the time.

Cons

Not too well organised, too much infighting withing divisions, not enough direction from top management

    Pros

TMO has an evolving environment and the corporate structure is being established since the merger of Thermo and Fisher Scientific. Each site has profit / loss responsibility and they roll-up the values within each division and group. This evolving structure has had some issues with people in the wrong positions but will eventually get it done right.

    Cons

Decision-making is a complex task as each site has their own way of doing things. The new corporate structure has made this both easier and also more complex as more people need to come to an agreement. There is a serious need to get better aligned to a single strategy and there is still a lot of entropy to do it the way we have always done it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to communicate - especially in difficult business times. Visit the sites even more now - don't stay away for weeks and months and then all visit at the same time - in bunches and while attending to other business issues. Come often and be open to speak with your people. Visit the shop floor, engage your workers and have serious dialog with individuals, groups and project teams.

    Pros

Working for TMO you feel like a party of a family and are treated like a valued member of the team. Even though this is a global company you feel that you can call any co-worker any where in the world and get the answers you need to get your job done.

    Cons

The size of the company can be intimidating and some times causes change to occur slowly due to the large amount of paper work and signatures required to get things approved, also due to peoples travel schedules some times you can not get the required signatures in a timely manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Always remeber you are only as good as your weakest employee so focus on developing your staff.
