I worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time for more than a year

Pros

Strong leadership from Finance, HR and IT organizations. They will recognize talent and encourage professional development. Lots of opportunities to move around to different divisions, departments, and geographies. Fair compensation but good benefits.

Cons

More opportunities to move sideways than up the ladder. Very political organization at the corporate headquarters. Leadership team forces geographic moves on employees due to hiring needs at the large number of isolated office locations (think holding company). Very active in the strategy department, meaning risk of site divestiture or consolidation.

I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Easy work, as much overtime as you can handle, and great amount of vacation time.

    Cons

Mandatory overtime (at least 8-20) hours weekly especially near the end of the year, company does not need to give you more than a days notice if working the weekend, incompetent management, minuscule annual raises for hourly employees, very small margin of advancement in manufacturing, and outsourced human resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have never seen such a clear example of the term "bad managers higher bad people," and it appears that chain goes very far up the totem pole.

I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are a lot of intelligent and friendly people. The company has good products.

    Cons

Work hours are awful during a month and/or quarter close with 10-12 hour days and some weekend work. There are seems to be "stealth layoffs" at the end of every quarter. People just disappear as jobs get eliminated. There rarely is anything acknowledgment and folks find out through rumors and hall way whispers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit cutting entry level workers when you don't hit your plan numbers that you committed. They didn't commit to the plan, you did. Cut yourself.
