I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

The pay at ThermoFisher is competitive and overall benefits are okay. The people I do work with are good people and do care about their jobs. Someone is always willing to help you with any questions.

Cons

The new health insurance thru Unity is very bad and for a company this size it should have better health care. Very little emphasis on training, it always comes up in your performance evaluation but your requests to get training are ignored. Current manager is very poor and upper management just seems to let her slide by and ignore her terrible performance.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

A good place to start out and it would depend what group or division you would get a position. The company is a typical big corporation.

Aggressive company, good benefits, but very focused on shutting sites down and consolidating.

I worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Thermo is an aggressive company that is always looking to grow, and to improve its operating processes. The benefits are good, and the company has (or at least had) a drive to be an "Employer of Choice".

    Cons

Thermo tends to acquire small-to-medium size companies, which are tough to integrate into one corporate or divisional structure. This can lead to a lot of stress and unpleasantness, as businesses are often "force-fed" to get them integrated. An even bigger problem is that, like so many other modern corporations, they shut down a lot of smaller or more recently acquired sites. As a result of these challenges, the working atmosphere is often stressful and demoralizing. Take Thermo's own advice, and manage your own career. Don't wait for them to manage your job away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back up the "Employer of Choice" drive by caring about the employees you already have, not the "outside experts" you want to hire. If employees are poor performers, there are ways to deal with this. I saw far too many good employees become demoralized when I worked for Thermo.
