    Pros

Great work life balance Good benefits Great opportunites to work in a global organization Financially secure and stable company

    Cons

Management is detached from the organization Management is focused on numbers and not the people Ultimately this is a family run business not sure how committed the family is to the business as they tend to buy and sell different businesses over time Disconnect between rewards and performance No real energy or focus - lot's going on but no feeling of working for one organization

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk. Building a business is not the same as merging and acquiring companies. People matter.....much more than you realize. Focus on the basics. Define and create a culture that people can believe in......stop the management reorganizations, people need to get on with delivering not constant disruptive change.

    Pros

As a content provider Thomson's not so tied to the boom & bust cycle. Very far-thinking senior management - e.g. got out of newspapers well before it was the obvious move; also set wheels in motion to buy largest competitor well before the 2008 downturn.

    Cons

Market data has become a commodity - the profits that were reaped in the 90s are not there any more now that real-time market data is available over the Internet for free.

    Advice to Management

The consolidation strategy of the last 10 years seems to be paying off - maybe not the best time for major investments
