Pros

There are different cultures within Thomson Reuters, and some of them are very flexible and family-friendly. If this is of interest to you, try to find another person within the group to find out more. Don't assume that one group is the same culture as another group.

Cons

The career plan is talked about, but isn't very clear. A person should network within the company after getting a job at TR - after you are comfortable in your job, volunteer for projects or events outside of your job and your group. This way, you'll expand your knowledge and will find that you can actually get your job done easier. Often it's who you know, not what you know, even for day-to-day items.

Advice to Management

Encourage networking within the company. It will help with innovation and productivity.

    Pros

Great work life balance. Can work from home as long as your manager says so.

    Cons

Some employees have been there forever and are resistant to changes.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the little guys.

    Pros

    Excellent benefits

    Great co-workers

Great focus on improving already excellent programs, great R&D support.

    Cons

Unstable market structure, (they kept restructuring their sales territories every year making it hard to establish relationships with clients)

Although generally flexible with hours, my department wouldn't allow us to use vacation time for sick time, when your normal sick time ran out.

Way too much middle management and wasted time in meetings.

It's often a political game of who you know and NOT what you are able to do that moves you up. Unfortunately with that kind of focus, quality of your workforce will go down.

Too many mergers and acquisitions in the last 10 years.

    Advice to Management

Pick a direction and stick with it, quit juggling your structure every year when you don't make revenue goals, I believe it's hurting our client base as there is no such thing as stability.
