I worked at Thorntons (Kentucky)

Pros

Get to meet people, sometimes with employees it can be a fun workplace, management is usually easy going or laid back but not always.

Cons

Customers are very disrespectful, pay isn't very good, alot is expected with little compensation, horrible work hours, work by yourself on third shift, and easy for robberies.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't delegate so much responsibility onto your part-time employees such as cashiers when general management doesn't do anything but "paper-work"

    Pros

The pay bonuses can be great. Interacting with co-workers and customers is enjoyable.

    Cons

The hours, period. If you're in management, say bye bye to your personal life for the most part.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Store support employees should be required to work as many crappy hours that managers get stuck working. And shift work too. That way they can see what it's really like in the stores and not be clueless to why managers are tired, cranky and worn out. Actually, they should be required to work in the stores as a csr for a month or so out of the year. It would help bring ideas to make a csrs job easier and more streamlined.

I have been working at Thorntons (Kentucky) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Thornton's is an employee owned company which is a very good benefit to all employees. They really care about their customers and want to provide excellent customer service.

    Cons

The hours are a bit overwhelming when you are in management. The stores operate on very little hours so when an employee calls off or is sick the management team generally is required to work the additional shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look more closely at your individual store needs. When new management takes over a location a lot can change which can positively change the hours needed to operate. I feel that after 3 months a new evaluation of operating hours should be looked at to accommodate the needs of the store.
