Pros

Work on new projects, great development team

Cons

Disorganized, bad management, would have to work extra hours because certain people not carrying their weight without extra pay, parts of the company going bankrupt, no room for growth, young managers that care more about partying and spending money than learning how to manage a company

Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn how to manage a business and then you won't go bankrupt

***Review for JackThreads, owned by Thrillist***

JackThreads is the sister company of Thrillist, the company culture are pretty much the same, but not quite. The company puts a lot of money into keeping the frigs stocked with beer, and tries to do events like weekly whiskey tastings or football games on the weekend. It's very casual and laid back. As someone once put it, it's a company run by ivy league frat boys. There are also lots and lots of emails to the whole company regarding anniversaries, achievements, and not logging off the conference room computers.

    Cons

As mentioned, while the companies are similar they are not the same, JackThreads wants to be concise and cohesive but isn't quite there yet. There's a huge gap between the two companies in terms of funding and budgets, which means everything Thrillist gets is better. Promotions are given based on seniority or favoritism. Upper management wants a say in every aspect of the company yet never bothers to find out what it takes to get there. People who dare to state their opinions are usually dropped after they finish their tasks at hand. In general, the company is disorganized and inconsistent with what they say they want/will do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get organized. Allow people who know what they're doing, do their jobs. You hire a lot of qualified people, now get to know them a little and maybe give them room to use their strengths to better the company - not punish them.

    Pros

The office is nice. The location is great. There is a party atmosphere. Some of the staff members are friendly and helpful. Everyone seems motivated.

    Cons

The hours are awful. The management is awful. Newcomers are not welcome. Smug employees. There is no clear voice or direction. The higher-ups edit content, but have never been writers/editors anywhere else. The lack of real world experience shows. When the day is done, there is no feeling of accomplishment. The daily work could be finished in a few hours had the editing process been smoother. Everyone is in too many meetings to actually get things done. The party atmosphere is incredibly fake and forced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your creative talent. Stop micromanaging.
