Former Employee - Engineering Manager in San Jose, CA

Pros

Interesting technology; good size company (can know many of its staff at all levels); good social events; qualified personnel working there.

Cons

Upper management have been in place for 10+ years; there is not as much leeway for new ideas as the company likes to emphasize.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The technology is too complicated to deploy as is - needs to be simplified.

    Pros

Extravagant holiday parties, decent work/life balance.

    Cons

Employees who contribute to the success and profitability of the company may be rewarded with surprise layoffs. Work is tedious; politics, confusion, and weak middle management are rampant; communication is poor; location in the middle of nowhere, no 401(k) match.

Current Employee - Senior Engineer  in  Alviso, CA
Current Employee - Senior Engineer in Alviso, CA

    Pros

    Competitive salary
Some very smart engineers work here
    Good work/life balance
    Good health insurance
Room for career advancement (if you make yourself visible)

    Cons

    Lack of coordination across departments
Internal politics keep teams from using a consistent process for software development
Management focused on getting a release out the door at the expense of creating technical debt, which makes products hard to maintain
Too much reliance on outside contractors for important work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what your engineers and testers are saying. If the company doesn't change some of its bad habits, the unsustainability of current methods have disastrous effect in the long run.
