I have been working at TiVo full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Could be a good place to add to your resume, but then move on to get anything worthwhile!

Cons

If you stay long term, you get no benefit to your career.
Very little innovation, and won lawsuits are the goal. When law suits are won, too much money is hemorrhaged on useless things.
There is also BAD leadership at the upper management level. No transparency from top.
All about wasting money on frivolous company events.
Not good enough benefits.
BEWARE... the list goes on...

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get REAL, give good people good opportunities, or your company and your multi-million dollar salary will disappear!

    Pros

    Great place to work if you have family obligations. Management is improving.

    Cons

    No on sight gym. Cafeteria /deli type food available, but not convenient for both sides of campus.

    Continue work/communications to break through siloughs. Headed in right direction.

    I worked at TiVo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    TiVo was the first of its kind back in the day and still holds on to that pride which is admirable but does have it's downfalls. The lower-levels of the company are very fun, energetic and an overall good place to be. Once you start moving your way up the chain, you see things are much different.

    Incredible work-life balance. Work never seemed to follow you home and you had the opportunity to socialize with the incredibly diverse employees both inside and outside of work. I've made some life-long friends at TiVo.

    TiVo set a new standard in customer service. This company will bed over backwards and shoot themselves in the foot if that's what it took to satisfy a customer.

    Cons

    The engineers at TiVo seemed to be concerned with improving the backend of the technology (the things that users don't notice) instead of the many glaring defects. Instead of having an engineer check out one person's rather small issue (which would presumably take minimal time to correct), they lump it into a "to do" pile to be looked at with the next software update which generally takes several months to even start.

    The upper-levels of TiVo have next to no communication among themselves or other departments. There was one instance where the advertising executive was going around college campuses in CA giving out free TiVos and the public relations executive had no idea it was going on. In fact, when they heard a report of it from a TiVo customer, they claimed it must be someone trolling the internet, a fake.

    When the more senior executives start moving to other companies, that should be your indication that there are some critical issues with the company. At TiVo, they see that and instead of looking at it a saying "wait a minute...", they immediately deny the possibility of any issues (without any consideration) and come to the conclusion that that person had to leave for personal reasons. At the lower-levels of TiVo, when a supervisor would leave due to work conditions, their managers would go all-out determining what needed to be changed. I can't tell you how many times I saw immediate changes at the call-center when an issue was brought up that could be addressed without involving the corporate offices. If the corporate offices were involved or even caught wind of an issue at the call-center, all hope was lost.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    At a minimum, have open communication with your lower-levels - don't hide behind the management between you and them. They are the ones that work directly with customers and have the best feedback that can be offered. The level-2 and level-3 teams at the support/call center filter out the "junk" feedback from the actual valuable feedback and have the most valuable input that can be offered. When the feedback gets passed from there to the contacts at corporate, it is either completely disregarded or changed so drastically that it may as well be disregarded. Then, weeks down the road, one of those issues reaches the upper-echelon (where I worked) and the executives cry out "why was this never brought to our attention?"
