I worked at TigerDirect full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

You can make money with enough determination and self motivation but it's up to you. I was successful and made it but I concentrated on differentiating myself from every other IT vendor(including TigerDirect)

Cons

You're likely to become discouraged at a number of issues before you make it. There are some profits Tiger gets paid on the back end to avoid paying employees and it can make it hard to be competitive. Vendors also front the bill on some compensation so Tiger can keep the profit. All marketing efforts are measured by open rates and not direct lead generation or ROI on investment so it's just a way to bill vendors for additional profit. "Training" consist of letter vendors pitch their products but there is no in depth training on either sales or technology unless you take it yourself(which you must do at home). There is a strong micromanagement culture but they aren't profitable so it's safe to assume management doesn't know how to be successful either.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to make better profits then a call center then stop operating like a call center. Then again that may explain the negative earnings. If you're going the wrong direction and the numbers show it, the answer is go faster. Pitching a rational that clients should pay higher profits because of the value of their account manager is only logical if you've invested in the account manager to increase their value. Hiring people are near minimum wage and teaching them the basics on how to place an order or place a call is not value.

    Management sucked!!! Managers always want to blame sales associates when numbers arent reached so they dont get blamed for their lack of leadership. They either work you to death or barely let you work at all. They do not care about their employees at all. Discounts garbage you cant even call it that and you only get to use it every second monday of the month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Actually hire managers who know what they are doing and actually train employees instead of throwing them into the fire clueless. Remember that affects your sales numbers as well!!
