Tim Hortons – “You get what you pay for.”
Pros
The owner of the store I work for is very flexible in scheduling the hours I work on the night shift. For employees (or family members of) pursuing or continuing post secondary education,The Tim Hortons Scholarship. (every little bit helps) Tim Hortons is very involved with minor sports and other community events (To what degree depends largely on the franchise owner) As a company, Tim Hortons strongly promotes community involvement.
Cons
I work straight midnight weekends and do not recieve any kind of shift premium. Tim Hortons has set a very low wage cap on hourly wages. After 14 years of working straight midnight weekends I am earning the highest hourly wage allowable, Which is only $2 dollars above minimum wage. Tim Hortons is very inflexible when is comes to a fair pay scale.
Advice to Senior Management
Long term employees who have choosen to stay with Tim Hortons through the years should not be subjected to such a low wage cap. Many companies complain about the revolving door syndrome, and poor customer service from their employees. When a long standing commitment to the company and a job well done is not rewarded with pay raises or even a recognition of a job well done. There is very little incentive to continue to work for the company, or to do a good job. The expression "You get what you pay for" applies. Small wage increases and fair pay for work done well is not unreasonable. Being told that despite how long you have worked for the company, your years of loyalty, customer appreciation and your hard, sometimes stressfull workload, (Midnights) you have reached your maximum pay wage.
What is the incentive to continue to do a good job, There is no pride in being underpayed. We are a rewards driven society. You work hard to get that promotion, new job title, that pay increase.
