Pros

Great work environment, good perks and benefits, "employee happiness" program of reimbursements for gym/health memberships, free tickets to movie screenings, magazines, etc. Potential for training and employee growth. They promote within very often.

Cons

The print industry is having many layoffs with the digital industry. They're having a hard time keeping up with the new technology.

Detail-oriented and opportunistic CPG-like business model with defensive middle-management.

I have been working at Time full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Aggressive, optimistic attitude to business growth. Friendly co-workers with minimal internal selfishness.

    Cons

Limited upward mobility; contrived dedication to innovation and change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Genuinely encourage change; create opportunities to laterally cross-train employees seeking to expand business knowledge (between marketing and sales)

Former media leader gamely fighting technological disruption

I worked at Time full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent editorial products, unimpeachable editorial integrity, established and leading brands. They have gone through round after round of layoffs, and those remaining are bravely and ably weathering what has been more than a decade of industry disruption.

    Cons

As a long-time leader, Time Inc.'s leadership is risk-averse, so fearful of making mistake that they miss opportunities. Investment capital is scarce. The company is also hierarchical to a fault, still, with too many chiefs and too few Indians, and too often it's the politically savvy who get promoted. If your performance is top-notch but you're not friends with your boss, you're going nowhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know the worker bees better. Manage more by walking around.
