I worked at Time full-time for less than a year

Pros

Excellent benefits, open company culture, flexible work schedule, well-known brand name known for quality product (journalism), ability to move within the company both up and / or laterally.

Cons

Unscrupulous management went pretty much unchecked for a good period of time, mostly due to bureaucracy, leading to poor decisions internally causing a lot of damage to departments and moral. Major layoffs during economic downturn. Lack of support in HR.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have an "open door" policy when it comes to feedback about upper management.

I have been working at Time full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Time Inc. has a lot of good people, there are plenty of perks like Summer Fridays, lots of time off, decent benefits, etc. that make it hard to leave here.

    Cons

Unfortunately, Publishing is an industry that is struggling mightily. There are too many good people leaving. The people that remain are complacent and not accustomed to working hard. With a management team in disarray, there is no clear direction for the company other than the impending spin-off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Separate each magazine into an individual business. Let the market and management team decide which brands survive and which ones fail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to become a technology company, hire a CEO that understands technology. Get rid of the old regime/senior management on the print side. They are the ones causing all of the politics. If not, Time is doomed for sure.
