Pros

Decent benefits highlighted by the time off you get and there's the cache of working at a legendary company and building.

Cons

Lay offs are a common thing and the people who get laid are the good hard working people who still keep things going... but the rewards go to lazy, has-been sellers who have likely been thrown out of their previous positions at smarter organizations and are here for an all expenses paid vacation. In sum, the worst of the worst of a corporate culture.

Advice to Management

When it's time to cut the fat... time to look at the has-beens who kick their feet up and are only there to wine and dine on the company dime vs. hard workers and the people that can actually give you a chance to save the company. Media is supposed to be fun and exciting and those are two adjectives that no employee has felt in years or maybe even decades.

    Pros

Lots of vacation time, some genuinely fun people, interesting environment with more than a few unusual perks, and magazine publishing can be an exciting business.

    Cons

Nobody seems to know where Time Inc. is headed after the spin-off, or even what the marching orders might be. The fear from more layoffs has created backbiting and far too much palace intrigue.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what's going on and communicate it to your staff.
