Time Warner Production Assistant in New York, NY:   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

Time Warner has a pretty good benefits package and salary is pretty similar to jobs at other media companies in the current economic climate. It is a great company to have in your resume and there is a good sense of morale and camaraderie in specific departments that usually makes up for the lack thereof felt from the company as a whole.

Cons

Promotions don't come easily and there is a lot of office politics especially from upper management. Many of the more creative positions within their specific TV networks are extremely difficult to get staff positions for and instead people work for years as freelancers without benefits and barely enough money to scrape by on without living in a box under the 59th street bridge.

Advice to Senior Management

1) Pay your interns. It's becoming the norm and typically they work harder and longer hours than anyone else in the company for nothing.
2) Have entry-level staff positions instead of hiring everybody freelance. None of your competitors do it and it's borderline illegal to hire someone to work a full-time schedule and not compensate them fairly in return.
