Time Warner – “Has ups and downs

Time Warner Senior Editor in San Francisco, CA:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Benefits package to employees. Believes in investing in brands by holding events, seminars etc. Wellness and tuition reimbursement. There is a believe in work/life balance.

Cons

Top-heavy. Be prepared to have much meddling in the making of your magazine from the executive suite in New York. Too many layers at the top directed by people who aren't familiar with the brand nor magazine making since the 1980s. A little less modern. More stuffy than many media companies.

Advice to Senior Management

In today's times, it would be nice to have a method for creatives to submit ideas for new business models etc. If magazines are going to share resources, there needs to be systems in place. Please look at the executive level and the multiple layers to get the job done. It makes the work tedius, uncreative, homogenous and demotivating.
