Timken Employee Review
Timken – “Timken - A Solid Company with a Bright Future”
2 of 2 people found this helpfulPros
Timken has a total rewards philosophy embracing competitive pay and benefits. It's a conservative 110 year old company operating from the perspective of 4 core values.... 1) ethics and integrity, 2) quality, 3) innovation and 4) independence. At the same time Timken senior management is willing to take calculated risks and drive change in order to secure a bright future for the company, customers, associates and shareholders. Recently improved talent management and leadership pipeline processes are doing a better job of identifying and advancing top talent based on objective rather than subjective criteria.
Cons
Although improving, the Timken culture still is very strong, making it difficult for diverse thought processes and perspectives to gain traction. Face time tends to be valued equally and/or more than results. Flexible work schedules are permitted, but managers tend to discourage this practice. Annual forced performance evaluation ranking system based on the GE model sometimes discourages teamwork and pits associates against each other.
Advice to Senior Management
Drive improvements in communication at all levels of the organization, especially during this turbulent time of major change. Utilize technology to disseminate our company strategy and direction, and make sure all managers integrate priorities in his/her team so they support the overall goals of the company.
