It was a long day and ready to go home, then a tire repair comes in at closing time.

I worked at Tires Plus full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good pay for sales starting out, good bonuses for management if they hit their numbers, mechanics not flat rate, it's a job.

    Cons

Long hours away from home 12+ a day, days off often broken apart, no weekends, Expected to work some Sundays and all Saturdays irregardless of religious affiliation, will hire you to the second closest store to your house (they do this so they have free tire transport between stores), expects employees to go to other nearby stores on their time off to pick up tires and bring them in and rarely reimburse for this, in fact seeking reimbursement if often discouraged, high pressure sales environment from upper management, very low commisions, mechanics are often heavily commision based which leads to suggesting more services than what a customer really needs at the time in order to make a paycheck, mechs are expected to work without lunches and if they don't they won't receive work that pays, company will search your personal vehicle without probable cause for stolen items without your permission during an audit, sales and management is instructed never to turn business away which takes the power of controlling a schedule out of their hands and often leads to missed lunches, long days and not closing at closing time in order to take care of that last $20 oil change that came in 10 minutes before closing time, mystery-shops on the phone to make sure you are reading a script to the customers, will secretly videotape its employees (in store mystery shopper) and will use the videotape to make an example of it's employees who are not "performing up to par", management will lie to both customers (in order to get them in the door) and it's employees (often times promising career advancement in order to get employee to work harder). Company is run in what I would consider to be a very immoral fashion.

I worked at Tires Plus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hands on experience, plenty of overtime, decent pay after some time, roads to a good salary if management is pursued, decent health insurance.

    Cons

Often unsafe working environment, long hours, very few amenities or incentives, high stress environment, constant pressure/criticism/interference/belittlement from district managers and above. Very few advancement opportunities, regardless of the training you receive inside and outside of the business (including college degree).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Choose the direction you want your company to go in, then try to pursue that direction. You can't be everything at once.
