I have been working at Tolt Service Group full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Company Vehicle, Laptop, gas card and cell phone. Freedom on a day to day basis is an absolute plus.

Cons

Completely unorganized from top to bottom. Since employed with Tolt I have been through 4 managers or supervisors in one year. Extreme work load. You are expected to work your days off and late everyday without receiving overtime. No chance of advancement. It is almost understood that no matter how hard you work or how much you do you will not receive any type of raise. Turn over rate is out of the roof.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The techs are what keep your head above water. When good techs come along they will not stay long if they don't receive compensation. Very simple concept. You take care of your employees they will work hard and want to stay with the company.

    I worked at Tolt Service Group

    Pros

    Fellow technicians were great to work with. Company vehicle, cell phone, laptop and gas card provided. Most days you were working alone so no one was breathing down your neck.

    Cons

    It was pretty much expected that you would work 24 hours a day and be available by cell phone or email 24 hours a day. Days off were unheard of and when you were on vacation you got called constantly. Whatever work you could not complete in an 8 hour shift was expected to be done on your own time with out compensation, packaging and shipping parts, inventory and cleaning of van etc. Tolt gave micro managing a whole new definition. Thanks to GPS you would get a call from your manager if you stopped at a rest area to take care of business. On a number of occasions I worked 20 hour days and was expected to be on the road by 8am the next morning or available to offer tech support via cell phone at all hours. They would pick apart your performance just so they didn't have to give you a raise. No training provided, it was expected that you would get out there and figure it out on your own. More times than not the parts you received were DOA or not the correct part. If another technician had the part you needed it was expected that you would drive to them to get the part no matter how many miles you were driving round trip to get it. The management team with a few exceptions were complete idiots, they really only care about SLA's and how the numbers look. You are not a person to them and they don't care if you have a family or a life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communicate with the people in the field. Your decisions very rarely would benefit the lowly techs in the field. The field techs are the ones that see and do everything that makes your company successful you should try appreciating them and rather than nit pick them every single day give a compliment or a pat on the back sometimes.

    Pros

    The level of benefits offered and provided was very typical and compared well to other companies of like size and scope.

    Cons

    lack of training classes offered or provided left one scrambling for customer resolutions especially during off peak and non standard business hours.
