I have been working at Tommy Bahama full-time

Pros

Tommy Bahama is the best company that I have ever worked for. Work life balance actually exists here - it is amazing! The benefits are great, my work is interesting, my coworkers are awesome and supportive, I am constantly learning. I hope to stay a very long time.

Cons

Systems are a little antiquated but I've seen worse.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on doing what you are doing!

    I worked at Tommy Bahama full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Higher pay scale than other retailers
    Non commissioned sales enhances team performance
    Clothing allowances and great discounts
    Nice co-workers, laid back environment
    Bonuses based on monthly performance
    Supportive senior management leading to growth opportunities
    They don't do markdowns so customers are trained to pay full retail
    Company is seeing major growth
    They prefer to promote from within
    High customer service standards creates loyal customers

    Cons

    Retail hours and irregular schedules even for full-time employees
    Product development (design) could be more varied to keep regulars coming back more often
    Salary increases are small (cents not dollars)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Design team needs some new talent but overall, this is one of the few retailers seeing major growth.

    I have been working at Tommy Bahama

    Pros

    Great lifestyle brand, great customers and co-workers. Tommy Bahama customers are generally pretty happy.

    Cons

    I got one small raise the duration of a few years and I worked very hard for the company, not to mention you are hourly and rairly work a 40 hour work week, it's more like 33-35 hours. There was a new Director of stores hired before Holiday 2011 and he came from Abercrombie, very disappointing! Tommy Bahama is not BIG BOX retail, Tommy Bahama is about Relaxing and making the guest happy, not trying to get 100 different color polos one one table and pushing the sales people to clientele. Many long time Tommy employees have quit and things are not looking good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Your employees are what makes the company run, this is a resort brand and if you think you are going to cut costs at bringing people in at $10-$12 an hour then that it ridiculous and you should start a commission program since you are pushing to clientele. This is very scary for this company! The small bonus you offer every month if the store makes plan is getting less and less because of your payroll cuts and your requirements to hit the bonus! Where is the incentive to work harder with no bonus and low paying wages?
