Pros

Fun atmosphere selling cool products. Most customers are happy to be there since the products are things they want, not things they need.

Cons

Mixed bag with upper management. Some people are "in" with them and are impervious to scrutiny. If you're not "in", you're screwed even if your performance is exemplary.

I have been working at Total Wine & More full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid training program allows team members to learn extensively about wine & beer. TWM also does a great job of promoting from within and is always looking to bolster the bench. Recent executive additions seem to be creating a more congenial corporate culture and better communication between corporate and the stores.

    Cons

Priorities are difficult to manage because the workload demanded is often times entirely overwhelming. You can forget about work life balance. Emphasis on tedious and unnecessary paperwork can be counterproductive and smacks of micromanagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a little more trust in your management teams in the stores, and work honestly at creating a less punitive culture from the top down. Your people work very hard for you. Be more realistic in what you ask of them.

I worked at Total Wine & More part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pros could possible exist only if the Management was human and had a heart, but they don't; its like a cold-blooded environment.

    Cons

If you get sick you are pretty much dead to this company, you are nothing more than a number. They can't even properly receive in the mail and/or process your Doctor's paper work and could care less if you live or die. Management is INCOMPETENT and turn over is very high, I would say 80% of everyone is new within the first year of any store opening.

They give you retarded tests every week, over and over and over..

No trust and no employee empowerment.

Their loyal customers are basically drunks.

There is no trust anywhere and Managers and co-workers are back stabbers, the #1 worst Retail company that I have ever worked at, and that's not even an understatement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a Clue not so much to the Management but the owners of this Company - it clearly reflects that they don't care, because their Corporate policies echo through their Management.
