Former Employee - Wine Associate in Los Angeles, CA

I worked at Total Wine & More full-time (less than a year)

Pros

the Education on wine and Spirits is good not great. their education is biased towards house brands and you don't learn about the competing national brands.

Cons

Compensation is terrible considering the amount of knowledge you must have in a highly specialized environment such as Fine Wine and Spirits.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

have compensation match the areas of the country in which they open in. They pay a barely livable wage in Los Angeles, which would be fine in Texas.

I have been working at Total Wine & More full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

If you can work full-time, full-time and benefits.Working with co-workers and vendors.

    Cons

Irregular schedule work 8,9 10 12 hrs days only 30 min lunch. A lot of times have to close at 10pm then open next day at 6 or 7 after working 10 hr shifts. 100% on feet. Highly overworked with not enough rest time or help. Corporate either dosen't know or allows stores to be understaffed expect during weekends. Too many managers and supervisor personal then employees in the day and they all have projects separately for you to accomplish. High amount of favoritism especially if your a female as a manager ,supervisor or wine associate. If this sounds the job for you be prepared to dedicate your life and work extremely hard non stop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being lazy and gathering at customer service and handing off work to everyone so you could talk. Stop talking about personal stories unrelated to work over radio and ear piece we have questions and need help that are work related. And listen and be serious about concerns and questions we have instead of talking behind our back to each other that we are complaining.
